Introducing ‘Jabiru Retreat’ to Bamurru Plains

Introducing Jabiru Retreat, the new private retreat, located at Bamurru Plains on the Mary River wetlands in the Northern Territory’s tropical Top End.

Ideal for small groups and families, the retreat accommodation consists of two safari-style bungalows connected via a raised walkway leading to a private plunge pool and lounging deck overlooking the floodplains. Spend leisurely days spotting a variety of wildlife including buffalo, agile wallabies, brumbies and an incredible variety of birdlife including Magpie Geese and the retreat’s namesake, the Jabiru.

Celebrating 20 years of The Maria Island Walk

The Maria Island Walk was first established in 2002, with the first walkers welcomed in the spring season of 2003.

Now in its 20th season, the award-winning walk has welcomed over 10,000 walkers. There have been many achievements along the way, including over 20 awards such as the highly-regarded ‘Best Eco Tourism Operator’ win at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in 2019.
