Depart Sydney at 8.30am and drive south-west on the M5 on the main Sydney/Canberra highway. 90 minutes drive from the centre of Sydney brings you to Mittagong in the heart of the Southern Highlands. Just a short drive from Mittagong takes you into the wine regions of the Southern Highlands and the oldest vineyard in the district, Joadja, where the winemaker, Kim, will take you through his selection of wines. At Joadja Vineyard you will also meet up with Mark, your guide from Blue Mountains Private Safaris. From Joadja it is a short drive by 4WD into the wilderness of the southern Blue Mountains and some of Australia's most spectacular scenery. Over morning tea and with beautiful views across the Wollondilly River, Mark will explain the history of the area.
Enjoy a BBQ lunch and bottle of wine in quiet seclusion on a private property on the banks of the Wollondilly River. The river offers a good chance of spotting one of Australia's more elusive mammals, the platypus, often up close from kayaks while paddling a gentle lagoon. In the afternoon enjoy a short bush walk with the opportunity of seeing goannas, grey kangaroos, wallabies and echidnas before returning by car to higher ground to possibly witness a wombat as they come out to feed in the late afternoon. Enjoy an evening sundowner drink before returning to Joadja at 16.30pm to collect your car for the drive back to Sydney.

* Private Road tranfsers from Sydney CBD Hotel to Blue Mountains Private Safaris can be arranged at an addtional cost.
