Day 1 - Fly by helicopter to the Blue Mountains
  • Collected from your Sydney hotel this morning
  • Fly by private helicopter to a remote valley on the Wollondilly River where you will be met on arrival by your local wilderness guide & host, Mark Tickner

For many years after the arrival of the first fleet in 1788, the mountains immediately to the west and southwest of Sydney proved to be an impenetrable barrier. Today much of the land is still a natural wilderness and the ideal place for nature enthusiasts wishing to experience some of the finest bush country in Australia.  The valleys here harbour a great variety of wildlife in immense numbers and in the company of Mark and with a little patience; you may be rewarded with sightings of Grey kangaroos, wombats and the shy platypus.

As this is an exclusive experience, Mark will tailor you time with him to suit your interests; perhaps a visit to Wombeyan Caves, bush walking, wildlife spotting, fly-fishing and kayaking.  Mark is a local guide, whose knowledge of the bush tracks and rivers is second to none, and whose relationships with local property owners provides access to properties on the southern boundaries of the Blue Mountains National Park.

Your accommodation is on the banks of the Wollondilly River.  Amidst the eucalypt and casuarinas bush, your bed is a ’swag’, the bedding of choice for generations of bushmen.  Our swags are the deluxe version, mounted on timber platforms and with 100% cotton sheets, soft pillows and a duvet for the cooler evenings.  Above you is a canopy of stars stretching across the night skies. Your en suite camp shower and eco-loo are surrounded by canvas but open to the trees and skies above.

The living area is a simple canvas and timber structure on the sandy floor of the riverbank and includes a small reference library.  After a day of fishing, canoeing, bushwalking or exploring by 4WD, kick back with a cold beer or a chilled glass of wine and watch the sun set.  Mark will be happy to chat about the days events as he sets the dining table on the bank of the river.  As you nibble canapés and help yourself to another drink he will prepare a delicious meal - perhaps a traditional camp-oven roast or seafood BBQ followed by a sweet treat.   Afterwards relax around the campfire in your own private wilderness - the sounds of Australia’s mostly nocturnal wildlife are all around.

Day Two - take a scenic flight by helicopter to Lilianfels
  • Your pilot will take you for a scenic flight over the Blue Mountains National Park and the Three Sisters before landing at Medlow Baths
  • Full day Rock & Rainforest trip in the Blue Mountains with Treadlightly Eco Tours
  • Your guide will take you to Lilianfels this afternoon

After a good nights sleep beneath a canopy of stars wake to fresh brewed coffee and perhaps a swim or a walk before breakfast.   After breakfast your pilot will take you on a scenic flight over the Blue Mountains National Park and the Three Sisters before landing at Medlow Baths.

On arrival your local eco guide from Treadlightly Eco Tours will meet you for a full day trip in the Blue Mountains National Park.  The Blue Mountains, so named for the blue haze created by the eucalyptus oil hanging in the air above the forest, were formed millions of years ago and still remain largely untamed though only 105 km (65 miles) west of Sydney. The mountains and precipitous gorges, which form a rugged barrier between the southeast coast of Australia and the west, were an impenetrable barrier to early white settlers.   Over one million hectares of land is listed as the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. It has been described as a “living laboratory” - a place to study the extraordinary evolutionary processes at work all around us. This unique eco-system has been shaped by tens of millions of years of erosion by fire, water and wildlife.

Your local expert guide will provide much more information as together you explore this fascinating World Heritage area.  This is a private tour and so your guide will plan your day with your input and to suit your interests - options available include bush walks, exploring caves, walking in canyons and rainforests, viewing waterfalls, wildlife viewing and visiting an ancient Aboriginal side.  The Jamieson Valley is Australia’s Grand Canyon and contains some dramatic rock formations, unusual plants and wildlife.  In addition to morning and afternoon tea, around the middle of the day you will stop in some scenic spot to enjoy a delicious bush picnic.

Lilianfels sits on the edge of the magnificent Jamison Valley, overlooking world heritage listed wilderness. This historic five star, European style country house is set amidst two acres of English style gardens and whilst elegant in the way of old world hotels, it is a relaxed and friendly place to stay.    Breakfast is served in the casual café and at this time of the day the room is sunny and bright.  In the evening casual Italian style meals are served here.  Lilianfels’ Darleys Restaurant is highly regarded and is located in one of the original buildings on the property.
We will be happy to make reservations on your behalf.  If you would like this done, please request at time of booking.

During your stay you might like to book a treatment at Lilianfels’ excellent Spa Centre, enjoy time relaxing by one of the two swimming pools (one indoor and one outdoor) or reading the newspapers in the welcoming lounge.

Day Three - at leisure in the Blue Mountains

A day to enjoy the Mountain Air, be as active or as relaxed as you wish.

During your stay at Lilianfels’ you might like to enjoy their excellent Spa, take time to relax  by one of the two swimming pools (one indoor and one outdoor) or settled down with a newspaper in the welcoming lounge.  Some of the most spectacular viewpoints of the mountains and sandstone escarpments are just a short walk from Lilianfels and bush walks trace the edge of the escarpments for breathtaking views or drop steeply down to the valley floor.
A few other ideas are:

  • Take the Scenic Train to the valley floor or ride across the valley on a cable car
  • Take a drive to explore the limestone caves at Jenolan (best seen on a weekday when they are not so busy)
  • Visit historic Collits Inn, the first inn to be built on the inside of the ranges, with its old cemetery, bush walks and gourmet restaurant
  • To satisfy the greatest golfing enthusiast, there are four 18 hole golf courses within easy reach of Lilianfels
  • Find a beautiful spot and enjoy a picnic surrounded by an abundance of natural wildlife.  Roll out the rug, delve into the wicker hamper for all manner of gourmet delights, including a bottle of fine Australian wine, and let the afternoon unfold
  • Lilianfels will be happy to set a table for two with a sunset view, champagne and canapés
  • See the mountains (or even transfer up from Sydney) on the back of a Harley Davidson motorbike, the local riders love showing visitors around

Day Four - return to Sydney by road

After breakfast this morning you will be transferred by private vehicle to Sydney.
