The magical metre-plus Barramundi

Australia's Top End boasts one of the world's great sports fish - the mighty Barramundi.  During the 'run off' in February to May the floodplains and creek systems of the Mary River are teeming with Barra attracting fishing enthusiasts from across Australia and overseas to the region.

Barramundi fishing is so popular with sports fishing enthusiasts because of its reputation of being a great fighter and its uncanny ability to get off the hook! They are finely tuned hunters living in one of the most hostile regions in the world so it's no wonder they can put up a good fight.

The highlight for any angler is to hook the magical metre plus Barramundi.  One of our recent fishing guests, Stephen, did just that this week at Bamurru Plains.  Where Swim Creek flows into Chamber Bay, Stephen wrestled with this metre-plus Barra and won.

Better known for its supremely comfortable safari bungalows and fine dining, award-winning Bamurru Plains also offers exclusive fishing packages - which include the rare opportunity of fishing from an airboat, the same fan-driven float craft used in the Florida Everglades.

To learn more about our fishing packages please contact us on info@bamurruplains.com or phone 1300 790 561 (within Australia).

In keeping with Bamurru's environmental sustainability ethos, anglers use lures, soft plastics and flies to target the Barramundi and, although a fish or two is kept for the dinner table, most of the catch are released.
