Crocodile sunning himself this afternoon at Bamurru Plains

Saltwater crocs, or "salties", as they are more affectionately referred to in Australia, are the earth's largest living crocodilian.  The average size of males reach 5 metres (17 feet) and 450kg (1,000 pounds) but specimens 7 metres long weighing 1,000kg have been found - so they say!

Crocodiles are the classic opportunistic hunter, lurking patiently beneath the surface near the water's edge, wating for potential prey to stop for a drink of water.

Crocodiles bask in the sun through much of the day, preferring to hunt at night.
