The Brush Cuckoo's call is a very familiar sound in the Australian Bush. At the Blue Mountains Private Safaris swag camp, their calls and songs can be heard during the warmer months of the year. This photo of a male was taken by our guide while on tour with guests last week.

These birds love hairy caterpillars and spend most of their time foraging high in the forest canopy.
An interesting fact about the Brush Cuckoo is that they are a nest parasite, laying its eggs in other bird's nests instead of doing the hard work themselves!
They select a host's nest with eggs that usually resemble the appearance of their eggs and lay a single egg there. Once it hatches, the young cuckoo ejects any other eggs or young in the nest. The surrogate parents brood and feed the young cuckoo as if it were their own.
